La résistance des parasites est de répartition mondiale, elle concerne de nombreux groupes de parasites (champignons, protozoaires, helminthes, arthropodes) et plusieurs familles d’antiparasitaires. La résistance des nématodes gastro-intestinaux aux anthelminthiques chez les petits ruminants est une contrainte majeure dans cet élevage et induit des pertes économiques importantes ; il en est de même pour celle des cyathostomes du cheval pour lequel le nombre d’anthelminthiques est limité, des coccidies aviaires ou des tiques des ruminants. À cause d’un nombre croissant de sujets en situation d’imumnodépression (HIV+, nouveau-nés prématurés, sujets greffés ou sous chimiothérapie), ce phénomène prend une dimension inquiétante de santé publique, par exemple avec les zoonoses vectorielles. Le praticien a la responsabilité du choix du traitement optimal et de la prescription dans l’intérêt des meilleures productions animales et de la protection de la santé publique.
