Résumé 0

Informal work remains remarkably common in Cameroon, despite the deployment of the government to restructure it, supported by the International Labour Organization. This research hypothesizes that, despite the theoretical sufficiency of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) to explain the intention to engage in informal work restructuring programs, the consideration of subjective descriptive norms, and of desire, would increase the model’s explanatory weight. The research integrates desire as a mediator between intention and its determinants. Two studies test this : one with informal workers (N= 337), and the other with the promotors of informal production units (IPUs) (N= 175). The results of hierarchical regression and mediation analyses are consistent with the hypotheses. Hence a twofold interest : the prospect of broadening the TPB and the avenues for more effective intervention in the informal sector with a view to restructuring the IPUs, as well as guaranteeing workers a better quality of life, safety at work, and decent work.
