Résumé 0

The objective of this article is to present a reflection on the concept of attachment in the evaluation of foster parent applicants. Foster parents’ attachment representations predict parental sensitivity to foster child needs as well as child adaptation. However, the evaluation of attachment representations is rarely considered in foster care applicants’ evaluation protocols. Those who wish to evaluate this concept face the difficulty of having access to valid measures that can be used in clinical settings. We present a partnership research project that aims to develop a scientifically sound attachment measure that meets the needs of the clinical setting. Assessing attachment representations would allow the identification of risk factors present in some foster care applicants who could then receive the clinical support they need. Although we value the assessment of attachment representations in this context, we nevertheless identify some of the pitfalls and challenges that it entails.
