In this article, I analyze and evaluate the translation of the works: “Igitur or Elbehnon’s folly” and “The Afternoon of a faun” by S. Mallarmé, as well as “The Drunken Boat” by A. Rimbaud by Kaisar Emmanouil (1902-1970). The works of French symbolist poets (Baudelaire, Verlaine, Rimbaud, Mallarmé, etc.) arouse particular interest in the poets who make up the so-called “1920s” generation in Greece. A keen translator of that era, Kaisar Emmanouil offers to the reader of his translations the opportunity to explore the role, the position and the possibilities of translated poetry into a society. The process which he follows highlights the way in which translation carries out transfusions of civilization from one country to another and is not limited to simple repetitions, but reveals the way in which poetry knows how to invent new identities inliterature.
