Apóstatas marroquíes de origen judío en Portugal en los siglos XVI-XVII

Este artículo trata el fenómeno de los apóstatas marroquíes de origen judío procesados por la Inquisición portuguesa de finales del siglo XVI, comienzos del XVII y sus implicaciones ibéricas. Así, desde el punto de vista de la tipología de los procesados, se muestra que se trata de un grupo con caracteres propios: por veces cercano al perfil del cristiano nuevo judaizante, por veces cercano al del apóstata de origen judío en Italia o al del mourisco en Portugal. En cambio, desde el punto de vista de la existencia de una misión en un Portugal obsesionado por la represión del cristiano nuevo de origen judío, se barajan dos hipótesis: a) que la presencia de los apóstatas en suelo portugués pone en evidencia la contradicción entre la inclusión misionera y la exclusión inquisitorial del cristiano de origen judío; b) que la extraña coexistencia de estos dos modelos de relacionamiento con respecto a la conversión del judío (misión e Inquisición) puede encontrar su coherencia en la contextualidad histórica peculiar de Portugal

Cet article traite du phénomène des apostats marocains d’origine juive poursuivis par l’Inquisition portugaise vers la fin du XVIe siècle et le début du XVIIe siècle et des implications du phénomène dans la péninsule Ibérique. Ainsi, du point de vue de la typologie des accusés, on note la présence de caractères spécifiques : parfois proche du nouveau chrétien judaïsant, parfois proche de l’apostat d’origine juive en Italie ou du mourisco au Portugal. Par ailleurs, du point de vue de l’existence d’une mission dans un Portugal obsédé par la répression des nouveaux chrétiens d’origine juive, deux hypothèses sont envisagées : a) la présence des apostats sur le sol portugais met en évidence la contradiction entre la mission, qui inclut le chrétien d’origine juive, et l’Inquisition, qui l’exclut ; b) l’étrange coexistence de ces deux types de rapports à la conversion du juif (la mission et l’Inquisition) peut être comprise sans contradiction dans le contexte historique particulier du Portugal

This article addresses the phenomenon of the Moroccan apostates of Jewish origin tried by the Portuguese Inquisition at the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century and its implications for the Iberian Peninsula. From the point of view of the typology of those put on trial it can be seen that it concerns a group with its own characteristics. Sometimes these resemble the profile of the Judaizing New Christian, at other times they resemble that of the apostate of Jewish origin in Italy or of the mourisco in Portugal. On the other hand, from the point of view of the existence of a mission in a Portugal obsessed by the repression of New Christians of Jewish origin, two hypotheses can be considered: a) That the presence of apostates on Portuguese soil provides evidence of the contradiction between missionary inclusion and inquisitorial exclusion of the Christians of Jewish origin; b) That there is a coherent relationship in the strange co-existence of these two models with respect to the conversion of the Jews (mission and Inquisition) in the context of the particular history of Portugal
