La relation privilégiée unissant Reverdy à Du Bouchet s’affirme à partir d’une reconnaissance mutuelle : le jeune poète prometteur échange, avec ce maître qui lui offre une alternative au surréalisme, des signes d’estime et d’intérêt. Du Bouchet consacre ainsi une étude approfondie à Reverdy en 1951, intitulée « Envergure de Reverdy », dont la réécriture radicale en 1992 dans Matière de l’interlocuteur permet de mesurer le chemin accompli par son auteur dans l’intervalle, d’un hommage initial à un dialogue post-mortem plus équilibré avec l’œuvre du maître ancien, et de l’idéal d’un rapport renoué avec le réel au constat aggravé d’un manque.

The privileged relationship between Reverdy and du Bouchet stems from a mutual recognition : the promising young poet exchanges signs of esteem and interest with this master who provides him with an alternative to surrealism. Du Bouchet thus devoted a thorough study to Reverdy in 1951 entitled “Envergure de Reverdy” (“Reverdy’s Scope”) whose radical rewriting in 1992 in Matière de l’interlocuteur allows us to measure the progress made by its author in the meantime, from an initial tribute to a post-mortem dialogue that has a more balanced connection with the work of the old master, and from the ideal of a renewed connection with reality to the worsened observation of a lack.
