Patricia Paillot, « Pathologie sans pathos dans War Dances de Sherman Alexie », Revue française d’études américaines, ID : 10670/1.bfifee
This article explores how Sherman Alexie uses writing as a therapy and humor as a recurrent diversion and displacement to confront illness. The author develops strategies of deviation and deflation to counter pathos, resorting to various literary devices to ward off suffering in a holistic vision of life. If the blending of joy and pain underpins War Dances in a war waged against oneself, fiction and rhetoric remain the most powerful instruments against traumatic experiences, and humor the most efficient tool to avoid self-centeredness.
