James Graham-Campbell, « The Archaeology of the Danelaw : an introduction », Actes des congrès de la Société d’Archéologie Médiévale, ID : 10670/1.bgkyl3
This article forms an introductory survey to the nature of the archaeological evidence (other than that of urban sites), and the problems that it presents, for reconstructing Scandinavian activity and settlement in England during the Viking Age, from the late 8lh to the late 1 llh century AD. The evidence is reviewed chronologically, using a three-phase division of the period, within four main categories : (i) pagan burials ; (ii) silver hoards ; (iii) art ; and (iv) rural settlement archaeology.
