Résumé 0

The Aix-en-Provence Law School, a crucible for the North African Jewish elite during the Third Republic, by Christiane Derobert-Ratel.The Jewish community of Aix, which, in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, was essentially comprised of descendants of the papal Jews, appeared to be very well integrated. This is without a doubt one of the reasons that inspired French Jews, as well as Jews from elsewhere, to pursue their studies in the ancient capital of Provence, even at the time of the Dreyfus Affair. The law school archives hold the student records of some 83 young people, of European, African, and Near Eastern origins, who attended this establishment between 1894 and 1906. This study focuses on their years in Aix, but also on the brilliant career paths that some of them followed in their later years.
