L’accord sur le nucléaire iranien signé le 14 juillet 2015 entre l’Iran et le « groupe des 5 + 1 » (États-Unis, Russie, Chine, France, Royaume-Uni, Allemagne) constitue un succès majeur, malgré les difficultés rencontrées pendant les négociations et même s’il ne règle pas les désaccords profonds entre l’Iran et la communauté internationale, et en particulier l’Occident. Outre geler le programme nucléaire iranien pour au moins quinze ans et lever l’essentiel des sanctions internationales à l’encontre de Téhéran, il montre les diplomaties américaine et iranienne sous un jour relativement positif et prouve qu’elles peuvent travailler ensemble et obtenir des résultats. Ce faisant, il laisse entrevoir des possibilités de réchauffement des (non -) relations bilatérales américano-iraniennes, mais aussi les obstacles à une telle amélioration des relations.
