La première partie de l’article s’attache à décrire de manière synthétique l’évolution des rapports entre l’enfant et sa famille à travers les différentes lois de 1975 à nos jours. En même temps, est établie la même évolution pour l’enfant placé. Il en ressort que les mutations sont très importantes pour la place de l’enfant dans sa famille comme dans les familles d’accueil. L’auteur, dans une deuxième partie, montre comment de « l’enfance dont il s’agit de se délivrer, on est passé à l’enfance à laquelle on rêve de rester fidèle » (Gauchet) . Cela signifie que l’enfant n’est plus seulement désiré mais programmé, voulu et que les rapports parents-enfants vont être souvent marqués par une espèce de non-séparation prenant un caractère pathologique au fil des années quand l’enfant n’en est plus un dans la réalité.

The first part of the article attempts to give a synthesized description of how relationships between the child and the family have evolved as seen through the different laws from 1975 to the present time. The same process has been set up for children in care. It transpires that there have been major changes concerning the place of the child in the family, a foster family or not. Then, in a second part, the writer shows how “we have moved from childhood to be freed from to childhood we dream of being faithful to” (Gauchet) . This means that not only is the child wished for but scheduled, wanted and therefore the parent-child relationship will often be branded by a sort of non-separation which becomes pathological as the years go by and in reality the child is no longer a child.
