À côté, des méthodes classiques de la décision, identifiées et développées dans les sciences de gestion et du management nord-américaines, il est possible de mettre en œuvre un processus de discernement, au sens où il s’agit de « juger clairement et sainement des choses » (Dictionnaire Robert). Ce processus, en accompagnant le décideur pas à pas et en l’intégrant en tant que personne avec ses pensées et ses émotions dans son contexte socio-organisationnel, permet de dépasser nombre des limites des méthodes classiques, sans pour autant les disqualifier. Après avoir succinctement rappelé les grandes lignes d’une pratique du discernement pour un choix personnel, l’article s’attache à décrire comment ce processus peut se mettre en œuvre dans l’accompagnement d’un choix collectif où la recherche de la finalité (mission de l’organisation) se trouve de manière concomitante avec les réponses aux questions posées à l’organisation. L’article insiste sur les postures de l’animateur du processus de décision, en commençant par rappeler tout le soin qu’il est nécessaire d’apporter à l’identification de la demande

Conducting collective discernmentAlongside classical methods of decision-making, identified and developed in North American business and management sciences, it is possible to implement a process of discernment in the sense of “evaluating things clearly and healthily” ( Robert Dictionary). When this process accompanies the decision maker step by step and integrates him as a person with his thoughts and emotions in his socio-organisational context, it is possible to go beyond many of the limits of the classical methods, without however disqualifying them. After a succinct reminder of the main principles of practising discernment in the case of a personal choice, the article describes how this process can be implemented in the case of a collective choice where the aims (mission of the organisation) are concomitant with the responses to the questions put to the organisation. The article insists on the postures of the leader of the decision-making process, and begins by reminding us how necessary it is to take great care in identifying the demand.
