Abstract 0

The Convention on Biological Diversity (1992) calls for the respect and preservation of “knowledge, innovations, and practices of indigenous and local communities embodying traditional lifestyles relevant for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity”. It also encourages the equitable sharing of the benefits arising from their utilization. Interdisciplinary in approach, this article seeks to transcend a description of the abundant international and national initiatives in order to survey the complexity of the stakes, understand articulation and establishment of the diverse stakeholders’ rights and obligations, and explore the complementariness of intellectual property and in situ natural resources management.
