Christophe Lemardelé, « Domination sexuelle masculine : de l’éthologie à l’anthropologie », Revue du MAUSS, ID : 10670/1.f61431...
The origin of inequalities between men and women invites many explanatory factors that are difficult to combine. If we adopt an evolutionary approach that takes into account the data of primate ethology, and include some basic phylogenetic insights, it appears that the male sexual domination is a basic anthropological fact that has either endured or was reinforced in human societies. It is also important to realize that many small societies without writing have institutionalized in their culture, local or more general, a brutal feminine inferiority even before becoming an established fact in some stratified societies, based on the extension of the family circle and the strengthening of the patrilineal system. Thus, the gender inequalities are in fact sexual inequalities whose origin has to be situated even before our prehistory.
