The article takes a look at the most significant moments in the conception of history textbooks in Egypt since the end of the 19th century. Textbook production, which is linked to transformations in the national educational system and bears the imprint of the political context, takes place on order. Despite the intervention of recognised professional historians, the practice has remained unchanged. The author examines the issue of standards for textbook writing as a genre as well as the variety of ways they are read.

L’article examine les moments significatifs dans la conception des manuels d’histoire en Égypte depuis la fin du xixe siècle. Liée aux transformations de l’éducation nationale et marquée par le contexte politique, la fabrication des manuels est tributaire d’une logique de la commande et l’intervention d’une profession historienne reconnue ne modifie en rien cet usage. À la question sur les normes d’écriture du manuel comme genre, se rajoute l’interrogation sur les manières de sa lecture.
