L’auteure soutient ici l’idée que l’expression somatique du clinicien survenant en séance constitue un véritable maillon associatif, concourant au travail d’élaboration des deux protagonistes du travail psychique. Elle s’appuie sur l’analyse de manifestations somatiques différentes (vertige ; sommeil) survenues lors du travail psychothérapique mené avec deux patientes, pour montrer qu’au-delà du caractère surprenant voire disrupteur de ces expressions, dans un premier temps, celles-ci furent forces de symbolisation dans un temps second.

This paper supports the idea that somatic expressions on the part of the analyst during sessions constitute a valid link in the chain of verbal associations unfolding and thereby have a role to play in elaborating the psychical processes of the two protagonists involved. In this, she draws on her experience of differing somatic expressions (dizziness, drowsiness) during psychotherapy with two female patients, and demonstrates that, over and beyond their initially surprising or even disruptive effect, these bodily sensations went on to become key forces in symbolisation at a later stage of the cure.
