This Atlas of Near Eastern Sites (french abbreviation ASPRO) consists of an alphabetical inventory of nearly 2,000 sites which were inhabited between 14,000 and 5,700 BP (14,000-4,500 B.C.) in an area which extends from Sinai to Turkmenistan and from Anatolia to the Arabo-Persian Gulf. Each site is located on a map according to its period of occupation (Map volume), and briefly described under a set series of headings (Text volume). Included are, not only major sites, excavated many years ago and exhaustively published, but also information on less well-known sites found on surveys and reported in diverse and difficult-to-find publications. The work is conceived as a research tool at the disposal of any reader with an interest in Late Prehistory.

Cet Atlas des Sites du Proche-Orient (ASPRO) se présente comme un répertoire alphabétique de près de 2000 sites occupés entre 14000 et 5700 BP (14000-4500 av. J.-C.) sur un territoire qui s'étend du Sinaï au Turkménistan et de l'Anatolie au Golfe arabo-persique. Chaque site est localisé sur une carte, en fonction de sa période d'occupation (volume de cartes) et succinctement décrit sous forme de fiches analytiques (volume de texte). On trouvera dans ce volume non seulement la description raisonnée des « grands sites » qui ont fait l'objet de fouilles anciennes et de publications exhaustives, mais aussi l'évocation de sites beaucoup moins connus, trouvés lors de prospections et signalés dans une littérature dispersée et parfois difficile à consulter. L'ouvrage est conçu comme un instrument de travail mis à la disposition de tout lecteur intéressé par la Préhistoire récente du Proche-Orient.
