The United States has an ambiguous relationship with the 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change. On the one hand, it widely promoted and shaped the Paris Agreement. When it was drawn up, it ensured that the treaty was viewed, under american law, as an executive agreement containing no new obligation for the United States. On the other hand, Trump Administration announced, in 2017, its intention to withdraw from the Paris Agreement. However, in practice, the withdrawal will have little legal consequences for the United States, which will be indirectly bound by most of the international obligations contained in the Paris Agreement.
