Résumé 0

Jean-Charles Khalifa’s paper is a corpus-based study of the pattern come / go + Adjective. On the basis of previous studies, and using a variety of tools ranging from cognitive linguistics to historical syntax, he shows that there is a heavy tendency for the path defined by go to be conceptualized as negatively oriented, versus positively oriented for come, hence the very peculiar distribution of adjectives with both verbs in his corpus. The author then goes on to show that, cross-linguistically, the pattern may well be universal.
