Cette homélie, prononcée à l’occasion d’un colloque sur J.H. Newman, relève trois traits de sa physionomie spirituelle. D’abord, un sens de l’invisible allié à un réalisme suprasensible étonnant. Ensuite, une conception radicalement surnaturelle du christianisme qui lui a permis d’adopter dans ses combats une attitude qui relève de son eschatologisme. Enfin, une force à toute épreuve qu’il a puisée dans l’amitié divine et humaine.

This homily, preached on the occasion of a colloquy on J.H. Newman, takes up three characteristics of his spiritual outlook. First, a sense of the invisible combined with an astonishing suprasensible realism ; then there is a radically supernatural conception of Christianity which allowed him to adopt in his struggles an attitude which comes from his eschatological propensities. Finally there is an unfailing strength which he drew from divine and human friendship.
