Il est habituellement question de diriger une thèse ; l’auteure préfère utiliser l’expression accompagner la réalisation d’une thèse. Ainsi, dans cet article, elle explicite la signification qu’elle attribue à la notion d’accompagnement. Ce métier d’accompagnante de thèses, l’auteure montre qu’elle l’a appris par l’expérience et en détaille les modalités concrètes. Elle suggère que chaque aventure avec un·e doctorant·e suppose une rencontre assortie d’une forme de contrat de départ qui comporte avant tout l’acceptation d’un travail élaboratif autour des mouvements psychiques convoqués par l’avancée du travail ; lequel se révèle très impliquant lorsqu’il s’agit d’une thèse clinique d’orientation psychanalytique. L’accompagnante se fait alors le témoin de la métamorphose du doctorant·e en chercheur·e, tout en assumant pendant un temps le rôle d’objet transformationnel au sens de Christopher Bollas avant d’en venir à des modalités transitionnelles d’accompagnement.

It is usually a question of supervising a thesis; the author prefers to use the expression accompanying the accomplishment of a thesis. Thus, in this article, she explains the meaning she attributes to the notion of support. This profession of thesis accompanist, the author shows that she has learned it through experience and details the concrete modalities. She suggests that each adventure with a doctoral student supposes a meeting accompanied by a form of departure contract which includes above all the acceptance of an elaborative work around the psychic movements called up by the progress of the work; which is very implying when it comes to a clinical thesis with a psychoanalytic orientation. The accompanist then witnesses the metamorphosis of the doctoral student into a researcher, while assuming for a time the role of transformational object in the sense of Christopher Bollas before coming to transitional methods of support.
