À partir d’une réflexion de quelques décennies de recherche participative, ce texte est une tentative d’éclaircir trois types de recherche participative (recherche-action, recherche intervention et recherche partenariale). Les trois types de recherche mettent au cœur de leur démarche la participation des acteurs de terrain. Leurs différences résident notamment dans leur finalité, dans le rôle du chercheur, dans le processus participatif, et dans la présence ou non d’un agent de mobilisation, comme « traducteur » des visions de chacun ainsi que dans l’engagement des niveaux organisationnel et politique. La contribution des organismes subventionnaires, en ce qui concerne leur vision et leur soutien financier, met en place des conditions facilitant le déploiement de ces types de recherche. Ce texte discute également de la double identité du chercheur intervenant : un hybride. Enfin, une modélisation du processus la recherche participative est présentée pour rassembler l’ensemble des éléments au sujet des caractéristiques inhérentes, personnelles et professionnelles, organisationnelles et politiques.

Based on a few decades of participatory research, this text attempts to clarify three types of participatory research (action research, intervention research and partnership research). The three types of research put at the heart of their approach the participation of the field actors. Their differences lie particularly in their purpose, in the role of the researcher, in the participative process, and in the presence or absence of an agent of mobilization, as “translator” visions of each and as well as in the commitment of the organizational and political levels. The contribution of the granting agencies, both in terms of its vision and its financial support, creates conditions that facilitate the deployment of these types of research. This text also discusses the dual identity of the practitioner and researcher: a hybrid. Finally, a modelling of participatory research process is presented to bring together all the elements in terms of the inherent characteristics, personal and professional, organizational and political.
