The objective of Law 21 which regulates the practice of psychotherapy in Québec was to protect the public. Adoption of this law protects the public to some extent, against abusive use of the psychotherapist title. However, we are witnessing a certain trend, a rather imposing one at that, being the standardization of psychotherapy practice and training. Evaluations and diagnostics seem to be particularly affected by this trend of abusive standardization of clinical reality.
