Laurent Camus, « The invisible technician of media event », Questions de communication, ID : 10670/1.ll498n
The media event technician works produces in real time the visibility of a scene to a broad TV-audience. The article explores the situated practices by which his body and equipment are invisibilized from the program, creating an asymmetry of visibility between the actors of the event and its mediators. It adopts an ethnomethodological and conversational analytic approach characterized by the use of video to examine the details of interaction. The analysis focus on two types of production: live broadcasting of football matches and post-production editing of a ritual live performance for patrimonial purposes. Rather than considering the technician's invisibility as a given, it is described as an endogenous and organized accomplishment, based on perceptual competences and embodied professional skills.
