Walter Benjamin, parce qu’il porte un regard critique sur les formes spectaculaires empruntées par la culture de masse fait partie de ces auteurs qui, à l’instar d’Elias Canetti, contribuent à requalifier le rapport de l’anthropologie sociale au politique. D’une part, ses textes sont porteurs d’une force de déplacement dans l’appréhension du discours et des catégories du politique ; d’autre part, ils renouvellent l’anthropologie du contemporain à partir d’une conception réflexive du présent, ouverte sur l’utopie.

Walter Benjamin, articulating a critical view on the spectacular forms drawn from mass culture belongs to that group of authors, who like Elias Canetti, contribute to reevaluate the relationship between social anthropology and politics. On the one hand, his texts contain a strong element of relocation in the way political speeches and categories are understood. On the other hand, they renew the anthropology of the contemporary on the basis of a reflexive conception of the present, open to utopia.
