Pour les islamistes, le monde Occidental représente un monde hédoniste, matérialiste et amoral. A ces griefs de fonds, s’ajoute un fort ressentiment ancien lié à la colonisation, à des déceptions historiques (accords Sykes-Picot, création de l’Etat d’Israël) amplifié par la fin de la guerre froide et ses dommages collatéraux. Malgré cette liste de reproches, déjà longue mais non exhaustive, ni totalement fausse sur certains points, l’Occident suscite encore une forme de fascination pour sa modernité. Fascination ou répulsion, l’idéologie radicale a déjà choisi son camp et exploite les humiliations subies ou ressenties, du passé comme du présent avec une redoutable efficacité.

To these basic reproaches, is added a strong old resentment related to colonization, to historical disappointments (Sykes-Picot agreements, creation of the State of Israel) amplified by the end of the cold war and its collateral damage. Despite this list of reproaches, already long but not exhaustive, nor totally false, the West still gives rise to a form of fascination for its modernity.
