The notions of containment and transformation find their origin in a mutation of the representation of psychic care. They address contexts such as care and the elaboration of parentality. They have led to the emergence and the development of the notion of psychic envelope. They presuppose addressing the process of projective identification and the conception of an inner world space. A historic overview of these notions is offered. The author highlights the notion of shared feelings as a condition for the elaboration of containment and transformation, which necessitates centering of the clinical work around intersubjectivity. All of these notions come to define a caring internal parental position, relying on psychic bisexuality, the primary forms of which are named here bisensuality. Internal parentality takes the form of a psychic bi-parentality, integrating maternal and paternal aspects of the self, and forming psychic bi-generationality.All of these qualities or characteristics apply to the parent, to the care giver and to the group or the institution giving the care, each of which allowing for a caring parentality to unfold (or not).
