Un individu peut utiliser les différentes langues de son répertoire pour communiquer dans une situation donnée. Nous nous concentrons sur une situation où un individu parle spontanément sans préparation. Le code switching est un phénomène courant dans un contexte multilingue mais nous soulignons le translanguaging ou la production translangagière (Narcy-Combes, 2018) qui est un construit plus récent. L’objectif principal de ce travail est de déterminer si le translanguaging est un résultat probable d’une prise de parole spontanée des étudiants sri lankais et ce qui en est la cause principale. Cet article vise à contribuer à la réflexion d’une didactique des langues en relation au plurilinguisme et à la pluriculturalité. Nous identifierons la présence du translanguaging et transculturing dans le contexte sri lankais à travers une approche qualitative. Le terme “translanguaging” signifie ici que des interlocuteurs peuvent passer d’une langue à une autre en utilisant leur compréhension dans l’une et leur expression dans l’autre. Le transculturing concerne le comportement transculturel des individus. Cette recherche porte sur les comportements transculturels (transculturing) des Sri Lankais qui expliqueraient les productions translangagières (translanguaging). La connaissance de ces phénomènes est cruciale lors de la mise en place d’un programme didactique pour des étudiants qui apprennent une langue additionnelle, dans notre cas le français, dans un environnement culturel varié/pluriel.
