Résumé
We usually take the notion of “application” for a certain relationship between theory and practice. However, one should ask to what extent it is effective or open to criticism. My hypothesis will seek to go beyond this traditional topos to show that this notion expresses the connection between a regime of knowledge, a regime of power and a regime of subjectivation. I will outline an archeology of two paradigmatic cases: the psycho-moral regime constituted in the 1880s in France, and the developmentalist regime from the beginning of the 20th century. My purpose will be to question the general problematization to which the notion of “application” refers.
