En s’appuyant sur la définition que Graham Huggan donne de l’exotisme postcolonial, cet article s’attache à montrer comment l’auteur syro-allemand Rafik Schami s’inscrit on ne peut mieux dans ce contexte autant par son œuvre que par sa personne. Faisant déjà l’objet d’une exotisation par les institutions littéraires et ses lecteurs, Schami se met lui-même en scène comme auteur arabe. Schami critique les penchants exotiques des institutions tout en s’en servant pour mieux affirmer son propre anticolonialisme, dans des œuvres comme Sieben Doppelgänger (Sept Sosies).

Based on Graham Huggan’s definition of the postcolonial exotic, this paper aims to expose the manners in which Syrian-German author Rafik Schami inserts himself exemplarily within this context through his works and his literary persona. Already subject to exoticisation by literary institutions and readers, Schami further accentuates this phenomenon in a self-exoticisation as an Arabic author. Schami criticizes the exoticist tendencies of literary institutions and strategically uses them to assert his own anti-colonialism, in works like Sieben Doppelgänger.
