Et il trouve là un « fil d’Ariane » permettant de « comprendre ce qui […] tient ensemble l’œuvre complète », de saisir la sagesse que propose cet authentique « philo-sophe » si souvent mal compris quand il n’est pas calomnié.A relire Ainsi parlait Zarathoustra en suivant ce fil d’Ariane, il se vérifie qu’il permet effectivement de dégager et l’essentiel et la cohérence de ce livre bien sibyllin sans rien négliger de sa profonde originalité ; chaque grand thème nietzschéen apparaissant comme un approfondissement et un enrichissement d’un des quatre grands thèmes épicuriens antiques : l’indifférence vis-à-vis du divin se changeant en « mort de Dieu », la mort sereine en « libre mort », la souffrance acceptée en occasion de « dépassement de soi-même » et le plaisir en immense « oui et amen ».

Using an aphorism of Human, All Too Human as a basis, Onfray sees Nietzsche as a new Epicurus, whose whole philosophy boils down to the epicurean fourfold remedy, the “Tetra-Pharmakon.” There, he finds the approach that enables him “to understand what holds the work together as a unit,” to grasp the wisdom offered by this “lover of wisdom” who is often misunderstood when not reviled.A rereading of Thus Spoke Zarathustra in this light confirms that it actually makes it possible to identify the essentials and the consistency of this most cryptic book without overlooking its profound originality. Each main Nietzschean theme becomes a further development and enhancement of one of the four main ancient epicurean themes: a lack of concern regarding the divine evolving into the “death of God”; serene death becoming “free death”; acceptance of suffering seen as an opportunity for “self-overcoming”; and pleasure as an immense “yes and amen.”
