Le travailleur taylorien : une « figure » dépassée ?

Les discours économique et sociologique soulignent régulièrement l’originalité du type du travailleur contemporain en le distinguant du modèle taylorien. Tout en reconnaissant l’émergence d’un type de travailleur nouveau, caractérisé par sa flexibilité, l’article tente d’évaluer la portée des transformations culturelles induites par la reconfiguration de l’activité technique de travail à l’œuvre depuis le début des années 1970. Distinguant les concepts de type et de figure en rattachant le premier à la singularité technique de l’acte de travail et le second à la conscience produite par cette activité, il s’agit finalement de voir si le type du travailleur flexible ne masque pas la pérennité d’une figure ancienne, celle du travailleur taylorien. Au terme d’une analyse comparative des traits intellectuels et moraux du travailleur taylorien et du travailleur flexible, il apparaît que la métamorphose du type du travailleur s’apparente à une pseudomorphose dans la mesure où les traits fondamentaux de la figure du travailleur taylorien structurent encore la conscience du travailleur flexible.

Economic and social discourses regularly emphasize the originality of the type of the contemporary worker by differentiating it from the Taylorian model. While recognising the emergence of a new type of worker, characterised by flexibility, the article puts forward an assessment of the extent of the cultural changes resulting from the reorganisation of the technical activity of work in operation since the early 1970s. By distinguishing the concepts of type and figure, associating the former with the technical singularity of the act of work and the latter with the consciousness produced by the activity, the aim of the paper is to determine if the type of the flexible worker masks the persistence of a past figure, that of the Taylorian worker. Following a comparative analysis of the intellectual and moral characteristics of the Taylorian worker and the flexible worker, the metamorphosis of the type of worker appears to be a pseudomorphosis in as far as the fundamental traits of the figure of the Taylorian worker continue to structure the consciousness of the flexible worker.
