Ann-Sophie Schoepfel, « Après la guerre du Pacifique : le procès de Tokyo et la fin du colonialisme en Asie », Relations internationales, ID : 10670/1.rroyw9
The International Military Tribunal in the Far East, known as the Tokyo Trial, was a key element of the end of the Pacific War. The historiography has neglected the imperial and colonial policies behind the scenes of the trial. This article proposes to fill this gap by studying the participation of France during the Tokyo Trial. It focuses on the position of the French Foreign Ministry and its delegates in Tokyo, who operated in a triangular relationship between America, Asia and European declining powers. It underlines the failure of France to legitimize the foundations of its power in Indochina, as well as it sheds new light on the end of the war, emphasizing the colonial legacy in international law.
