Nerone, l’opéra (d’une vie) inachevé de BoitoEn 1860 déjà, Boito commence à ébaucher un Nerone musical mais ce n’est qu’en 1901, l’année de la mort de Verdi, qu’il publie sa tragédie en quatre actes Nerone, sans toutefois jamais achever l’orchestration. Complété par Arturo Toscanini, Antonio Smareglia et Vincenzo Tommasini, qui essaient de suivre les indications laissées par Boito, l’opéra est créé à la Scala de Milan le 1er mai 1924, avec un grand succès, et jusqu’à nos jours il a été gravé sur disque six fois. Dans cet article on s’interroge sur la genèse, la très laborieuse ‘gestation’ ainsi que sur la création (posthume) de l’opéra.

Completed by Arturo Toscanini, Antonio Smareglia and Vincenzo Tommasini, who try to follow the remarks left by Boito, the opera was premiered at La Scala in Milan on May 1st, 1924, with great success, and until today it has been recorded six times. In this article we question the genesis, the very laborious ‘gestation’ as well as the creation (posthumous) of the opera.
