La Première Guerre mondiale a eu des conséquences tragiques pour le Moyen-Orient. Elle a conduit au dépècement de l’Empire ottoman et à une balkanisation de la région. La France et la Grande-Bretagne ont semé les graines de conflits futurs en faisant des promesses contradictoires aux notabilités et dirigeants locaux. L’instabilité que l’on observe aujourd’hui au Moyen-Orient puise ses racines dans les découpages qui ont fait suite à la Grande Guerre. Une nouvelle conflagration régionale est à craindre.
