Dying for a Friend: the Case of Faustus, vicarius of Eros According to CIL VI 6275 In the Monumentum Statiliorum, an epigraphic set belonging to Faustus, vicarius of Eros, makes it possible to understand the origin and the evolution of a servile under-dependance link. As the servus ordinarius’s career progressed, a strong friendship was shared by the two men. It is this amicitia that led to the vicarius’ decease. The inscriptions give an indication about burial practices, and about the review and the renewal of tituli on stellae when the dedicate had climbed the social ladder.

Issu du Monumentum Statiliorum, le dossier épigraphique de Faustus, vicarius d’Éros, permet de reconstituer la naissance et le cheminement d’une relation de sous-dépendance servile. Au gré de la trajectoire professionnelle du servus ordinarius, naît une relation d’amicitia qui cause la mort du vicaire. Les inscriptions livrent des indices sur les pratiques de commémoration et de réactualisation des stèles funéraires au gré des promotions du défunt.
