The dictionary is the most widely consulted work of specialized linguistics among the general public and the most widely used in schools. However, the dictionary is difficult for many users to understand, because in order to convey a lot of information in a small space, it uses a very coded text. If lexicographers address users directly in the form of a complete sentence, they use the remark (rem.). This can appear anywhere in the article and often helps to clarify, specify, and popularize information. In this article, we present and analyze the different uses of remarks in two general French dictionaries available online : Le Petit Robert 2021 and Usito.
