Résumé En Fr

The Bodies of Gods in the Greek and Roman World: A Survey of Historiography. This brief survey presents a synthesis of the ways in which, since the 1986 publication of J. P. Vernant and C. Malamoud's seminal symposium entitled Corps des dieux, this theme has come up in research and debates in the past three decades, at the crossroads of art history, the history of religions, and literary studies. While issues of the differences and specificities of the bodies of gods may have been approached from highly different perspectives, they still remain crucial to reflections both on the status of images in ancient societies and on the perception of the divine.
