En testant les noms collectifs français avec les « marqueurs » espèce, sorte et genre, cette étude s’attache à examiner la manière dont ces noms peuvent accéder à une lecture catégorielle et / ou approximative, ainsi que la façon dont ils réagissent à ces deux lectures. Bien que se comportant globalement de la même manière que les noms standard, les noms collectifs se particularisent par leur mode et leur facilité d’accès à l’une ou l’autre lecture, et par les types de traits engagés dans la lecture approximative de ces noms. Cette étude fait également ressortir la pertinence de la distinction entre une lecture approximative intracatégorielle et une lecture approximative intercatégorielle proposée par Gerhard-Krait & Vassiliadou (2017).

By testing collective nouns in French with the approximators espèce, sorte and genre ( kind, sort, type), this paper studies how these nouns can have a categorical and / or an approximate interpretation and the way they react in both cases. Although behaving generally in the same way as standard nouns, collective nouns are different both in their susceptibility to be interpreted differently and in the specific features involved in their approximate interpretation. The study also highlights the relevance of the distinction between intercategorical and intracategorical approximate readings proposed by Gerhard-Krait & Vassiliadou (2017).
