"Even though information and communication technologies havecontributed to the deconcentration of productive activities, they havealso led to the territorial concentration of the production of knowledgebasedinformation. In this context, a growth of cities has been identifiedas the prevalent mode of human settlement. Supposedly, the interactionof this process with the development of information and communicationtechnologies should bring about an increase in the proximity amongpeople, thus developing more fluid social ties. However, this interactioncannot escape the dispersing effects generated by capital globalization. This paper deals precisely with this paradoxical development ofinformational society."
