Résumé 0

The Associations of the Former Children of the Commission Centrale de l’Enfance (CCE) : Generational Identities and Competing MemoriesIn the 1990s, two groups of former children of the Commission centrale de l’enfance (CCE), an organization dedicated to children founded in 1945 by the Yiddish-speaking communist Jewish organization, Union des Juifs pour la résistance et l’entraide (UJRE), created two different associations with commemorative and historical objectives. This article questions the influence of two different histories on generational identity (Clifford, 2017), that of the Holocaust orphans who grew up in the CCE homes and that of the children who lived with one or both of their parents and participated only occasionally in the CCE’s socializing forums. This article suggests that the main difference between the collective memories and identities of these two associations can be located in the political dimension.
