Les arguments versés au débat sur l’origine de la prohibition de l’inceste forment le socle d’une matrice thématique où s’est jouée la distinction entre les différentes disciplines et où se sont opposées sciences sociales et psychanalyse depuis la fin du xix siècle. Dans cet article, on s’intéressera aux représentations de l’interdit de l’inceste construites en parallèle chez les sociologues et les anthropologues. On verra ensuite comment ces discours concurrents ont finalement été évincés au profit de la théorie de Claude Lévi-Strauss et d’une représentation stylisée et ésotérique de l’interdit de l’inceste. Pour finir, on montrera que ces différentes paroles scientifiques sur l’interdit de l’inceste ont fabriqué en un peu plus d’un siècle un véritable angle mort sur la pratique réelle et banale de l’inceste dans les familles occidentales.

The theories of incest in anthropology – antagonistic representations and cultural unthought thoughtsThe various arguments put forward in the debate over the origin of the prohibition of incest form a thematic crucible, in which the distinction between several scientific fields has been established, and where social sciences and psychoanalysis have had opposite viewpoints since the end of the XIXth century. In this paper, we shall firts focus on the representations of the prohibition of incest which were built at the same time by sociologists and anthropologists. Then, we shall see how these competing theories were gradually replaced by that of Claude Lévi-Strauss and by a stylised and esoteric representation of the prohibition of incest. Finally, we will show that, in the span of a little more than a century, these diverse scientific theories on the prohibition of incest have led to the creation of a real blind spot considerably reducing the visibility on incest as it is commonly practised within western families.
