Notre objectif sera de comprendre comment, en l’absence d’une théorie générale de l’intermédialité, un champ d’études peut néanmoins se développer grâce au gain d’un travail, cumulatif, collectif et inscrit dans la durée d’une revue interdisciplinaire particulièrement accueillante aux études de cas. Nous étudierons comment les études de cas publiées par la revue Intermédialités ont permis de forger les concepts d’une nouvelle intelligibilité. En nous fiant aux recommandations de Jean-Claude Passeron et Jacques Revel ( Penser par cas, 2005), nous ferons « ressortir […] l’implication réciproque entre l’articulation d’une théorie et le déroulement d’une enquête », repérerons les « concepts descriptifs » qui ont permis « d’observer des phénomènes qui n’étaient pas observables » et de cumuler les résultats de chaque enquête pour tenter une « reconfiguration théorique » gardant son caractère empirique, provisoire et circonstanciel. Après tout, nous faisons nous-mêmes une « étude de cas » en nous penchant sur des articles publiés dans une revue singulière, née dans un contexte et œuvrant dans un milieu particuliers. Comme toutes les « études de cas », elle en appelle d’autres.
Notwithstanding the absence of a generally accepted theory of intermediality, the aim of this article is to shed light on the ways in which intermedial research has come to constitute itself through a collective, cumulative process. Taking as a starting point the international, peer-reviewed journal Intermédialités/Intermediality, a journal that has been particularly open to the publication and promotion of case studies, we study how case studies published in the journal between its inception in 2003 and the time of writing (2020), have given rise to a new intelligibility. Building on the recommendations formulated by Jean-Claude Passeron and Jacques Revel in their 2005 book Penser par cas, we will aim, in particular, to “highlight […] the reciprocal implication that takes place between the articulation of theory and the unfolding of inquiry.” Seeking to identify the “descriptive concepts” that have allowed for “previously unobservable phenomena” to be deciphered, our aim is to reflect on the multiple ways intermedial case studies collect the results of their inquiries so as to attempt a “theoretical reconfiguration” that nonetheless retains its specific empirical, provisional, and circumstantial character. By delving into the archive of articles of a singular journal, one that was born from a specific context and operating within specific milieus, we are thus ourselves performing a “case study” of sorts. Consequently, as is the case with most case studies, ours also constitutes an invitation for future case studies of that type to emerge.
Nuestro objetivo será el de comprender cómo, en ausencia de una teoría general de la intermedialidad, un campo de estudio puede sin embargo desarrollarse gracias a un trabajo acumulativo, colectivo y registrado a largo plazo en una revista interdisciplinaria particularmente abierta a los estudios de caso. Estudiaremos cómo los estudios de caso publicados por la revista Intermédialités/ Intermediality ayudaron a forjar los conceptos de una nueva inteligibilidad. Apoyándonos en las recomendaciones de Jean-Claude Passeron y Jacques Revel ( Penser par cas, 2005), “destacaremos […] la implicación recíproca entre la articulación de una teoría y la realización de una investigación”. También identificaremos los “conceptos descriptivos” que permitieron “observar fenómenos no observables” y acumular los resultados de cada encuesta para intentar una “reconfiguración teórica”, manteniendo su carácter empírico, provisional y circunstancial. Finalmente, proponemos hacer nuestro propio “estudio de caso” al analizar la colección de artículos publicados en una revista única, que nace en y responde a un contexto particular. Como todos los “estudios de caso”, esperamos que el nuestro sea un anticipo al que seguirán otros.
