Cet article examine l’aspect religieux des relations gréco-ottomanes, notamment dans la ville de Smyrne et sa région. Grâce à l’exploitation de documents inédits conservés aux Archives historiques du Ministère hellénique des Affaires étrangères, l’auteur décrit les conditions qui ont prévalu dans la société ottomane à la suite du décret Hatt-i humayun. Sur la base de ce matériel, l’auteur soutient qu’une approche entièrement différente des diverses questions d’ordre religieux fut adoptée à Smyrne et sa région par les autorités de l’État et la population musulmane locale. En même temps, l’auteur examine la façon dont les autorités consulaires et diplomatiques helléniques ont géré ces questions, notamment en abordant l’affaire de Ragouzis, citoyen hellène.

In the current article the religious dimension of the Greek-Ottoman relations is examined with special focus on the city and surrounding area of Smyrna. With the exploitation of unpublished documents from the Historical Archives of the Hellenic Foreign Ministry the author depicts the conditions that prevailed in the ottoman society within the context of the Hatt-i humayun decree. In the basis of the above-mentioned material it is supported that there was a totally different approach to the various religious issues that occurred in Smyrna and its surroundings between the state authorities and the local Muslim population. In parallel, the way that the Hellenic consular and diplomatic authorities handled the aforementioned cases is examined, especially that of a Hellenic citizen, the Ragouzi’s case.
