Rosalba Arcuri, « Per Italiam servilis belli semina (Tac., Ann., IV, 27, 1): gli spazi italici della schiavitù in età tiberiana tra economia e società », Actes du Groupe de Recherches sur l’Esclavage depuis l’Antiquité, ID : 10670/1.xaoy04
Although there is still discussion about the crisis of the times and modes of production and the so-called “ Slave mode of production” related to the system of the villa, seems to have passed the Weberian thought about the end of ancient slavery connected to the end of the wars of conquest. Many texts of high-imperial age, as the Annals of Tacitus concerning the principate of Tiberius, make allusion to a large number of slaves, whose demographic concentration mainly in Rome and southern Italy did not fail to create imbalances and social tensions. Through a study of the character and morphology of Italic agriculture in the Tiberian age, the survey will tend to outline the economic changes that have occurred in the Peninsula in the post-Augustan period, especially in reference to the production linked to the exploitation of slave labor, classified in the anthropic and geographical spaces of central and southern Italy.
