Sana Jarraya et al., « Physical education and sport: Effect on cognitive performance in a group of Tunisian school children », Enfance, ID : 10670/1.y7y83i
The objective of this study was to examine the effect of a program of Physical Education and Sport (PES) and its timing on cognitive performance in Tunisian schoolchildren. Eighty-four schoolchildren (M age = 10 ± 0.2 years) participated in the study. The protocol consisted of three tasks (selective attention, reasoning and memory) administered at two times of the day, in the morning (between 10 and 10.30) and in the afternoon (between16.30 and 17.00), and in two conditions: “with PES” vs. “without PES,” and this during four successive Thursdays. The oral temperature was taken at the beginning of each session. Results show a significant effect of the PES practice on cognitive performance when practiced in the afternoon (between 16.30 and 17.00). We therefore recommend an alternation physical activity and intellectual work in the afternoon.
