Résumé 0

Colonial imagination and reconfigurations of Judaism in France: a regeneration?, by Yolande Cohen and Christine Chevalier CaronThe regeneration project transformed the relationships between French and Maghrebi Jewish Communities. These representations, full of colonial utopias, embodying the salvation of the Jews from Morocco, became crucially true when those Jews arriving in France were thought to regenerate French judaïsm, which was undergoing a deep crisis.Analyzing the Alliance Archives and other community journals, the authors examine those changes, insisting on solidarity and fraternity, thus departing from a former paternalist attitude towards Moroccan Jews. They also showed how the arrival of North-African Jews in France changed the configuration of French Jewry after World-War II.
