Sur la possibilité d’une écriture de l’interruption chez Benjamin

Cet article se propose d’examiner le rapport entre le concept d’histoire élaboré par Walter Benjamin et l’écriture, comme pratique et comme concept. L’écriture paraît être l’apanage de l’historicisme, comme écriture de l’histoire par les vainqueurs à laquelle Benjamin s’oppose ; toutefois, Benjamin désigne son autre concept d’histoire comme historiographie matérialiste. Il s’agit dès lors de déterminer en quoi peut consister une écriture de l’interruption, qui interrompt également l’écriture de l’histoire telle qu’on la connaît. Pour cela, cet article mobilise la notion de citation et la figure du chroniqueur et s’appuie sur les outils conceptuels et de lecture développés par Jacques Derrida. Ces éléments permettront de mettre en avant la non-hétérogénéité de cette écriture de l’interruption par rapport au langage véhiculaire inscrit dans le continuum historique qu’il s’agit d’interrompre.

This article aims to examine the relationship between the concept of history developed by Walter Benjamin and writing understood as a practice and concept. In opposition to historicism's prerogative over writing, as illustrated by history being written by the victors, Benjamin refers to his concept of history as materialistic historiography. From this standpoint, it is necessary to determine what can be a writing of interruption, which also interrupts the writing of the story as we know it. To that end, this article mobilizes the notion of quotation and the figure of the chronicler while relying on conceptual tools developed by Jacques Derrida. These elements highlight the non-heterogeneity of this writing of interruption in relation to the vehicular language inscribed in history's continuum, whose very interruption is that which is at stake.
