Dans la problématique de notre propre construction humaine avec et dans le monde, ce dernier terme est trop souvent réduit aux seules dimensions de deux mondes : le monde psychique/psychologique intérieur en tant que sujet individuel et le monde social/sociétal immédiat en tant que sujet membre de divers collectifs. Mais ce faisant, un troisième monde est alors oublié, pourtant essentiel au développement des deux précédents qui ne sauraient se construire sans lui : le monde de la nature. Diverses perspectives peuvent alors être envisagées pour compléter cette absence, tout spécialement à l'ère de l'anthropocène. Prendre en compte ce troisième monde (qui nous précède et nous survivra) peut nous aider à réfléchir à notre engagement, à notre recherche de sens et à la compréhension de nos besoins. C’est d’ailleurs sans doute pour cela que certains modes d’actions éducatives comme les « écoles dans la nature », qui systématisent les situations d’apprentissage réalisées en milieux naturels, sont en pleine expansion. Il est essentiel de comprendre et d’établir des liens tant individuels que collectifs avec la nature, en tant qu’environnement non humain bénéficiant à l’environnement humain. La prise en compte des liens avec la nature est actuellement à l’œuvre, elle est théorisée et elle a même fait son entrée dans les curricula éducatifs. Certains mouvements de l’école nouvelle, notamment celui de l’école moderne, s’en sont emparé. Nous les conceptualiserons avec les travaux et théories de Pierre Weil (France, Brésil), qui présente la Nature comme un tiers en interaction complexe avec l’individu et avec la société. Ensuite nous exposerons ce que « l’éducation environnementale » peut apporter dans la construction d’un sujet, non plus vu comme limitée à une relation duelle avec autrui, mais envisagé de façon au moins tripartite, avec la société et la nature. Nous explorerons dans une approche transdisciplinaire à quel point la conscience humaine permet de comprendre l’intrication, la complexité, la fragilité et le devenir de la vie sous ses multiples formes, et peut en tirer parti pour sa propre construction.
