Chesterton (1874-1936) témoigne de la mondialisation de la conscience catholique britannique entre les « guerres des Boers » de la fin du xixe siècle et l'affaire italo-éthiopienne en 1935-1936. Ses romans ( Le Napoléon de Notting Hill, La sphère et la croix, L'Homme qui était Jeudi) et ses nouvelles (la célèbre série du Père Brown) font écho à ses engagements politiques contre l'impérialisme et le nationalisme, pour une perception globale des enjeux.

Through his life, his political writings and his literary works, Gilbert K. Chesterton (1874-1936) is a witness of the globalization of a British catholic conscience between the “Boer Wars” at the end of the 19th century and the Ethiopian Affair in 1935-1936. His novels ( The Napoleon of Notting Hill, The Ball and the Cross, The Man Who Was Thursday) and his short stories (the famous series of Father Brown) are in echo with his political involvements against imperialism and nationalism, for a global perception of the issues at stake.
